Fabi Preslar is the president and founder of SPARK Publications. We are a small family-run firm with seven employees, so she also acts as HR and the person who keeps up employee’s morales. Since the pandemic hit in 2020, as of most employees, she has been working from home.
There are many achievements that Fabi Preslar has had for SPARK Publications.
- Focusing on family first. She strongly believes that as a team we are more creative and better focused when our family lives are a priority.
- Continued our full paychecks after many client projects were canceled.
-Scheduling flexibility and understanding of employee’s health (physical and mental).
-Showing genuine interest and compassion in employee’s lives and achievements outside of work
-Creating a safe environment for employees to schedule time to come into the office each week to keep the collaborative and social aspects of our team intact
-Providing a company-paid lunch for all employees at the office when one person forgot theirs.
-Inviting team pets into the office to boost employees’ morales and ease anxieties
- Hiring comedians and motivation professionals to perform fun ice-breaker sessions before a few of our production meeting
- Invested in submitting many client projects for awards to have even more reasons to celebrate team accomplishments and client recognition.
During a time when many small businesses were letting their teams go due to lack of work or having to completely close during the pandemic, Fabi again stepped up to put her team first. We continued to receive our full paychecks after many client projects were canceled. She did apply for and received our PPP loans. She worked 12-14 hour days, landing nine new book projects and attracting a new magazine project just in time to keep us all happily employed. When employees were mandated to work from home, she recognized that some employees preferred this method instead of having to go into the office (and extended that option for them), especially those with long commutes, and allows those workers to choose their preferred work environment. She shows genuine interest in employee’s lives outside of work by asking for ticket information about events and to share pictures and/or videos of them. This shows she respects the work-life balance of her employees. She also talks with the employee to work out a schedule for them if needed because of a recurring outside event. She allowed our team members to bring in a pet (one time) into the office to provide support and comfort to those who were anxious about their COVID shots or just genuinely in need of emotional support.
She also submitted many client projects for awards, having even more reasons to celebrate team accomplishments and client recognition; we won over 15 awards (industry and other) in the past year.
