The Compass Manager Enablement program which is part of Manager Solutions Center of Excellence team IBM India/South Asia (ISA) started its journey in Q4 2017 with the objective of Enabling and Coaching managers on all Enterprise & Business exclusive HR Programs, People Priorities, and on various other topics based on data and feedback received from different channels.
Since its inception, the team has year on year enabled over 90% of managers and have enabled managers on all enterprise-wide programs. In 2018 the team did 112 Sessions with total attendance of 39,117 (repeat participants), 2019 - 117 Sessions with 39,165 repeat participants, and in 2020 the team delivered 133 Sessions with over 53,000 repeat participants.
The Compass Program led and deployed a transformational hiring related project with 95% enablement coverage and 100% adoption within 2 quarters at IBM India/South Asia.
The program also led and deployed a critical career related project with 100% achievements to it’s objectives.
2020 was a challenging year that compelled the Manager Enablement program to think differently and introduce proactive programs addressing the “New Normal”. The team ran two specific projects to support IBM ISA Managers. These projects focused on Mental Wellbeing and Leader Connects. In 2020 the program did 22 events (sessions) on mental wellbeing with over 6000 attendees (repeat participants), NPS 72 and 13 leaders connect events with over 8500 attendees, NPS 73.
Another priority in 2020 was to focus on new people managers. The Compass Program launched a new program with the name of “New Manager Enablement Program” where in monthly events for new managers were planned and executed. The program included a Welcome Newsletter, an Enablement session with HR Partners (monthly), and quarterly HR Leader Connect. Under this program new managers were oriented on various HR topics and talked about people priorities and focus areas. Program NPS for 2020 was 82.
In 2020, The Compass Program launched an internal site dedicated to Manager Enablement that hosted information on past and future events and replays. The site had over 33,000 visits.
Project – Compass Bites was introduced in 2020 to create a new platform for manager enablement. This project consisted of pre-recorded short videos on enablement topics which were hosted on the enablement site. The page received over 15,000 visits and hundreds of content downloads.
Manager Enablement plays a very significant role in overall Manager Experience. Highly enabled and informed managers are able to inspire and lead their teams to achieve business objectives.
All projects under the Compass Program in 2020 met their objectives. In 2020, Compass Program was one of the key contributors to increase in overall Employee Engagement Index at IBM India/South Asia and helped reduce transactional manager queries by 36% in comparison with 2019. The overall Employee Relations posture at IBM India/South Asia got better with managers being able to effectively make the right employee decisions and handle employee grievances with integrity.
Besides highlighting key matrix from various projects in the previous questions, the Compass Program also enabled managers on Performance Management (Appraisals, Promotions, Performance Improvement) and did 31 Sessions with over 5000 attendees (repeat managers).
Managers were periodically enabled on Integrity & Compliance via 6 events that had over 2500 attendees.
In 2020 the enablement team did more than ever innovation in the area of manager enablement to support managers in leading teams in the most challenging year.
