2021 marks the 190th anniversary since the founding of Assicurazioni Generali in Trieste, one of the few brands in the world with such a long history. It is an important milestone for the Group, moving forward with invaluable historical background and matching it with the Generali’s ambition to become a Lifetime Partner to its customers, offering innovative and personalized solutions thanks to an unmatched distribution network, enabling people to shape a safer future by caring for their lives and dreams and propelling the Group to a more sustainable future.

The unique heritage of know-how, experience, business initiatives and trust, built up over time by employees and agents, has always enabled the Group to act effectively in the present and anticipate future trends, both as an insurer and as a social innovator in the communities it operates in.

According to Generali 2021 Strategy and D&I priorities, Generali invests in Talents and new generations’ development to strengthen diversity, grow global Leaders, and create a sustainable succession pipeline to ensure business continuity while nurturing young employees to live inspiring experiences and contribute to the Group’s success.

To this aim, the Future Owners Program has been launched in 2020: an innovative global initiative for young talents with the motivation and skills to step up for new opportunities and invest in their professional growth, aiming at finding young talents with potential and willingness to embark in a development journey, being owner of their career.

1,150+ employees applied and after a unique digital selection journey ~300 employees, diverse in terms of gender, age and nationality mix, demonstrated to have the potential, global mindset, motivation and skills to become the leaders of tomorrow.

The selection process was a virtual online global contest with open enrollment base, measurable, data-driven, and supported by an innovative and user friendly platform leading participants through all selection touchpoints with a seamless experience.

The program had a global target population: it was designed by an international HR team (40 employees from local HR community) a pool of senior Group Talents (20) and Business Leaders (7 CEOs) to be aligned to the cultural expectation of each country, inclusive, and business oriented.

Future Owners is a strong asset of talent attraction strategy, scalable in other industries and geographies. Given the great success and achievements, it will be replicated every 2 years.

VIRTUAL, INCLUSIVE, TRUSTWORTHY SELECTION PHASE

The challenging pandemic context and the participants worldwide required a virtual online selection process including sponsorship letter, English, personality, cognitive ability, and situational judgment tests, and communication skills evaluation (video interview). All tests have been designed and analyzed by an international team to be inclusive for minority, accessible for every eligible employee across the Group, fair and unbiased on the cultural and linguistic aspects.

ENGAGING EXPERIENCE

The process ensures participants’ engagement, thanks to platform real-time updating and communication and engagement initiatives (e.g. inspirational events with internal senior sponsors and guest speakers, discussions with the Top Management, global communication plan).

2-YEAR GROWTH JOURNEY

It has been designed to give Future Owners the chance to get involved in development initiatives, get exposure to Senior Leaders, and encounter diverse experiences, accessing concrete activities (e.g. project assignment, Leadership Program with Business Schools, Talent Event, Community calls, Leadership Talks, Peer-to-Peer insights, customer interaction, reverse mentoring with Senior Managers).

The journey includes a team-based online Collaboration business game, a starting point to tailored development needs, simulating a competitive virtual business environment in which players take managerial decisions showing ownership and willingness to embrace challenges.

SUSTAINABLE, GLOBAL, DIVERSE LEADERSHIP

The Leadership Team and the local HR community share their needs to have more inclusive and representative leadership teams for the Generali of the future, supporting the Group talent attraction in the market. With its bottom-up approach, Future Owners is a concrete action of the Generali transformation journey in the Next Normal scenario.
