The Dell Technologies Data Engineering Course is a brand-new training as part of the Dell Technologies Proven Profession program and was released on April 2020.
Organizations are looking for data engineers with the desired skills and experience needed in managing Big Data Analytics environment to meet business requirements. However, this is not proving to be as simple as it could be, because there is a major skill gap in this domain.
Dell Technologies Education Services took an initiative to build a unique certification path for Data Engineering to bridge the skill gap to ultimately lead to the creation of a greater number of data engineers and addresses organizations’ challenges of building and maintaining data analytics infrastructure.
The Data Engineering specialist-level training and certification is designed to help aspiring data engineers expand their skill sets in the areas of SQL, NoSQL, Spark, Data Governance, Internet of Things (IoT), Data Pipeline, and Python. The courseware prepares students for the Data Engineering Specialist-level Certification exam. This course is supported by intensive hands-on lab exercises which cover SQL/NoSQL, Data Pipeline, Extract Transform and Load (ETL) Offload, Internet of Things (IoT), and various Apache Tools (Kafka, Spark Streaming, Flink, Storm, Ranger, Knox) that are discussed in the course.
The data engineering training has five courses consisting of theory and labs (see resources).
Additionally, E-Learning “Introduction to Data Engineering” is offered as a free training to create visibility for the Data Engineering certification path. It gives a brief introduction about the importance of data engineering, and tools and technologies used by data engineers.
As part of its Proven Professional program, Dell Technologies Education Services offers certification for IT professionals in the field of Data Engineering. The Data Engineering course has been well received among IT professionals and helped to fulfill the organization’s need to upskill their employees as part of Workforce Transformation in the space of Big Data analytics.
This course also contains a practice test so that the learner can get a feel of the real certification exam and understand the format or question types before approaching the exam. To help learners to prepare for the exam, the course contains a downloadable pdf version of a student resource guide.

The Data Engineering course was released in last week of April 2020 and currently more than 2500 IT professionals have consumed this course. This course is available in On-demand Web Course, and Virtual Classroom modalities.
This consumption is tracked through our Learning Management System (LMS) which measures number of successful learners as well as certification and measurement is automated using DOMO tool (see resources).
Because of this learning initiative, Dell Technologies Education Services measured the impact through increase in consumption and revenue (see resources).

Xyleme Screen Shots: Course content was developed using a LCMS tool called Xyleme. Using Xyleme features, the content has been developed in an interactive way using tabs, image maps, knowledge checks after every module, and videos.
Lab Environment Image: Implemented experiential learning to address the modern learner needs by providing hands-on experience through labs guided by lab manuals, an easy approach to navigation through menus, a clear differentiation between ‘need to know’ and ‘nice to know’ content through links and supplements.
Practice Test Image: As this path is associated with a Dell Technologies Proven Professional certification exam, we created several questions for the certification exam. Designed a practice test (~60 Questions) that the learner would be able to take to get a feel of the real certification exam and understand the format or question types before approaching the exam.
Tech Exchange Webinar Poster: Our go to market strategy involved offering one of the courses for free, conducting a Tech Exchange program, posting course availability information, and sharing promo videos in social media platforms.
