“Akçansa Digital Academy” is a new project designed and implemented in 2020.
Akçansa, a joint venture of Turkey's leading conglomorate Sabancı Holding and the world's largest manufacturer of building materials Germany-based multinational HeidelbergCement, is Turkey's largest cement producer and the leading company in its sector. Akçansa, meets 10% of Turkey’s cement need and 16% of total cement and clinker exports.

One of Akçansa's main HR strategies is "continuous learning". In Akçansa, where 64% of its employees are located in plants with diverse locations, digital solutions that enable employees to reach the development opportunities they need anytime, anywhere have come to the fore in order to ensure the continuity of learning, especially with the effect of the pandemic.
Akçansa Digital Academy is a development platform where employees can access development solutions in many different methods and content specially produced and curated digitally 24/7.
Akçansa Digital Academy offers many different tools such as e-learnings, self-study resources, video trainings, surveys and exams for employees in different positions. In addition, with the main profile pages that can be customized, people can easily access the trainings assigned to them or the trainings of their choice and follow them from their home page.
In addition to training on professional development topics such as Leadership, Sales, Finance, and Technology, Akçansa Digital Academy also offers content in many different personal development areas such as parenting, life in a pandemic, environmental awareness, wellness, and nutrition. With these contents, Akçansa HR contributes not only to the professional development of its employees but also to their lives.
On top of to all development content, Akçansa Digital Academy also provides access to the records of HR communication activities carried out at Akçansa. Employees can access the accurate and reliable information they need within seconds, from anywhere, thanks to its extensive resource and video library.
Akçansa Digital Academy attracted the attention of employees in a very short time after it was put into service and achieved successful results in the first 3 months. More than 60% of the employees logged into the platform in the first 3 months, and 233 trainings were completed.
New content is added to the Akçansa Digital Academy every month and the content is constantly updated in line with the evolving needs.
The Project Marketplace program, which was implemented in order for Akçansa employees to have the opportunity to apply the knowledge they gained in the Digital Academy is an important project that distinguishes Akçansa's development solutions from its counterparts.
Project Marketplace is a hands-on social and collaborative learning platform where employees are fully engaged voluntarily. Employees can create company projects of their own or participate in existing projects as project members. In this way, employees in different departments, duties and competencies get the experience of working with each other, and they also have the opportunity to put their newly learned knowledge into practice.
With Akçansa Digital Academy and Project Marketplace, Akçansa employees take responsibility for their own development and thus to have a learner-centric learning experience. With Akçansa Digital Academy, employees are provided with development solutions anytime-anywhere and with Project Marketplace, employees have the opportunity to experience "learning by doing, experiential learning", the importance of which is emphasized in the 70-20-10 model.
With the HR and development practices in 2020 and 2021, despite the negative effects of the pandemic, improvements were achieved in all HR metrics and performance above the targets was achieved.
The number of employees identified as "Promotable" in the company talent codes increased by 35%, and 33% of the employees eligible for the process were designated as promotable talent.
Sussession Pipeline Readiness:
In Akçansa Succession Pipeline, the rate of ready successors increased from 67% to 96%, and the rate of developing successors increased to 100% from 75%.
In 2020, Akçansa achieved an increase of 12 points in its Employee Engagement results, and with this high rate of increase, it succeeded in being in the top 10% of 360 companies according to Hewitt's global research.
In 2020, voluntary turnover decreased by 33.85% to 4.3%, and regretted turnover decreased by 88.57% to 0.4%.
Investors in People:
Akçansa was deemed worthy of the International Investor's People (IIP) award in March 2020, becoming the first company among Sabancı Group and HeidelbergCement companies to receive a GOLD standard certificate.
It was re-listed in the Capital Most Admired Companies list in 2020 and succeeded in being included in this list for 19 consecutive years.
