TCS has a well- defined learning and competency development methodology with extensive focus on digital skilling. All technical competency definitions within TCS include 5 proficiency levels (E0- E4) ranging from Elementary to Excellence, which cater to a diverse set of associates and professional requirements. TCS’s digital learning strategy focusses on building full stack Digital Ninjas who possess a strong understanding of multiple skills with expertise in at least one – a skill profile that we continuously build & assess leveraging ‘T- Factor’ (patent- pending) – an internal measure to assess breadth and depth of associates’ skills across digital technologies.

The need to deep skill and certify associates in multiple digital categories is key to achieving the strategic objective of building a strong Digital Ninja pool. While E0- level learning is made possible with TCS’s ‘just in time, just enough and just for me’ learning ecosystem, combining exploratory microlearning with guided journeys available on ‘Anytime, Anywhere, Any Device’ platforms, the E1 and above certification programs are made available through advanced deep skilling programs executed in a ‘phygital’ bootcamps comprising of multiple sprints and a wide range of learning interventions. Participants are provided a holistic learning experience with a blend of digital courses, assessments, hands- on activities, virtual lab exercises, expert connects, case studies, capstone projects, certification exams and hackathons, before they finally graduate from such programs.

Along with virtual labs and bootcamps, external learning platforms were made available, such as LinkedIn Learning and Udemy, which give associates more options for learning and preparing for certifications.

While digital deep skilling certification programs began more than a couple of years ago, TCS has conducted close to 100 digital programs from Jan 2019 until date. Some of the deep skilling certification programs made available during this period include Cloud and Microservices Architect, Deep Learning, Data Scientist, AWS Architect, Azure Architect, Machine Learning, Mulesoft, AWS Solution Architect, AWS Developer Associate, DevOps Engineer, IBM DevOps Engineer, IBM DevOps Architect, Big Data Developer, Microsoft Azure AZ- 103, AZ- 203, AZ- 300, AZ- 301,AZ- 400, AZ- 900, DP- 100 and DP- 200 programs. These programs have over 8000 crème de la crème associates participating across multiple geographies with almost 2400 graduates successfully acquiring certifications in key digital categories so far. This is apart from 114,230 unique associates who have already achieved 189,048 intermediate level competencies from our inhouse learning programs coupled with vLabs. With a high learner satisfaction expressed by the graduates, the success and impact of digital certification programs is clearly seen in the success of our digital transformation engagements and our customer satisfaction. Graduates are closely monitored and moved into digital accounts over time. This closes the loop by ensuring the participants can apply their digital competencies in their roles.

As the demand for digital certified associates continues to grow, the deep skilling program in TCS is continuously gaining momentum and expanding to the latest digital areas available in industry today. Because of these certification programs and other strategic certification initiatives, TCS employees acquired 679,000+ certifications in 2019, 1.595 certifications per associate for a workforce of 450,000+.
