Hoag Hospital is the highest ranked hospital in Orange County in U.S. News & World Report’s 2019- 2020 best hospital rankings. Since 1952, Hoag has served the local communities and continues its mission to provide the highest quality health care services through the core strategies of quality and service, people, physician partnerships, strategic growth, financial stewardship, community benefit and philanthropy.

For an unprecedented 23 years, residents of Orange County have chosen Hoag as one of the county’s best hospitals in a local newspaper survey. Hoag is an approximately $1 billion nonprofit, regional health care delivery network in Orange County, California, that treats more than 30,000 inpatients and 480,000 outpatients annually.

Hoag consists of two acute- care hospitals – Hoag Hospital Newport Beach and Hoag Hospital Irvine - in addition to nine health centers and 13 urgent care centers. Hoag is a designated Magnet® hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and offers a comprehensive blend of health care services that includes five institutes providing specialized services in the following areas: cancer, heart and vascular, neurosciences, women’s health, and orthopedics through Hoag’s affiliate, Hoag Orthopedic Institute, which consists of an orthopedic hospital and two ambulatory surgical centers.

Our Talent Acquisition team's success hinges on creating a seamless user experience. By leveraging automation and integration technologies to remove friction from the application process and inject new efficiencies into our workflows, we are able to support the hiring volume of a top- ranked healthcare organization.

By adopting a 24/7, “digital first”, recruiting strategy centered on web enabled tools including, on- demand video interviewing, online questionnaires, and surveys, the team was able to attract, evaluate, and hire top talent all while providing a personalized candidate experience. Allowing talent to engage with our brand anytime and anywhere, resulted in our team sending over 2,227 total on- demand video invitations, at a 78% rate of completion, with 36% of submissions being done via mobile.

Other enhancements included the development of a Career website optimized for mobile, and a social media and email marketing strategy, designed to build, nurture, and inform our talent community at every stage of the recruiting funnel. The increases in transparency and responsiveness led to the Hoag Talent Acquisition Team being awarded a CandE Award in 2019.

Candidate Experience (CandE) Awards by Talent Board is a competition that allows any company to benchmark and improve their candidate experience. Our team surveyed over 5,000 applicants across 4 key data points, including their likelihood of applying again, and willingness to increase their business relationship with Hoag.

Proudly, Hoag ranked #45 overall and #19 in the medium- sized company category, and our team continues to utiliz e the insights gained to drive further improvements.

In 2019 we saw both a 12% increase in applicants, and a 5% increase in the number of interviews our team conducted, compared to 2018. Of the nearly 70K applications Hoag received, we interviewed 3,408 job seekers, with 31% of those being on- demand video.

Survey results confirmed the efficacy of on- demand interviewing in three key areas: time- to- contact, user experience, and quality of hire. With 26% of interviewees responding - 63% reported being contacted in a week or less and 56% "strongly agreed" that the platform was easy to use. With detailed communications around job requirements, the number of applications per candidate decreased from 3.12 to 2.76, and the number of 1st year separations dropped 8.5%.

We developed a LinkedIn strategy designed to promote greater brand awareness, increase engagement, and generate leads. Analytics show 50+% of our content “resonates with our community”. That has translated to a 5.9% engagement rate, which exceeds the 2% industry standard. With 57% of LinkedIn traffic being mobile, we integrated LinkedIn’s “Apply” API with our Careers site for a more seamless application process.

Finally, in an effort to provide value to our robust talent community, we created a bi- weekly email newsletter called The Talent Huddle. With over 55,000 subscribers, the newsletter has performed at or above industry benchmarks. Our open rate averaged 20% for 2019, compared to 22% for healthcare companies, and our click- through- rate (CTR) stands at 2.30%, compared to 2.946% for email campaigns of similar size.
