Employer of the Year Essay
Serving the telecommunications needs of Filipinos is no easy feat. To enable the digital lifestyle of a nation, Globe needs the best people to make things work. Globe employees, called Ka-Globe, are empowered to champion the purpose of creating a Globe of Good.
The Human Resources department ensures that Globe has a purpose-driven, high-performing workforce, attracting people through its policies and programs.
Benefits and Perks
Globe has a Flexible Benefit Program that allows employees to customize benefits to suit their needs and those of their dependents. Meanwhile, the Flexible Work Arrangement Program lets Ka-Globe choose their working hours and sites. We also launched the Globe Dormitory for Ka-Globe wanting to live closer to work.
Under the Corporate Incentive Plan, Ka-Globe can receive a hefty two-months bonus based on company targets and individual performance.
Career and Development
We do succession planning and hold constant talent discussions to align with the career aspirations of employees. They grow and get continuous learning opportunities via Globe University, with its five academies.
The Dual Career Track leads to clear career paths for our talents, within and outside their group.
We launched the Customer First Circle (CFC) to enable Ka-Globe to take part in passion projects. CFC fuels the employees’ passion to improve customer experience, coming up with innovative solutions to address customer pain points. Top projects represent Globe in the annual Centre of Regional Excellence for SingTel Group (CREST) Summit.
We give non-monetary recognition during the annual gala activity Globe Excellence Awards (GEA). A total of 200 nominations were received in 2018, for the 11th edition of the Oscars-like ceremony. The GEA categories are Service, Innovation, Agile, Volunteerism, Leadership, and Employee of the Year, which is the highest honor for any Ka-Globe.
Groups also celebrate milestones within the team and provide monthly recognitions of top performers. We laud long-time employees by hosting a yearly fellowship for those with 25 years of service.
Pushing for Holistic Wellness
We promote holistic wellness by providing a full gymnasium facility, giving employee discounts at the in-house pharmacy, holding regular fitness/dance classes, and having an in-house nutritionist (twice a week) at our headquarters. For employees’ convenience, we also have an in-office bank, minimart, salon, pharmacy, carwash, mom’s room, prayer room, and art gallery.
Moreover, Globe promotes environmental sustainability by reducing the impact of business operations to the environment. Employees are encouraged to do volunteer work through Volunteer Time Off. 2018 saw a total of 3,164 employees did 32,640 man-hours of volunteer work.
Having Fun at Work
We ensure work-life balance, through fun employee activities. We have 12 interest clubs, from football, basketball, to music and arts. Regional offices also have their own unique clubs.
There are also monthly bazaars, pop-up stores, wonderful Surprise Activations (celebrating company milestones), and key events (Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Halloween, and Christmas).

The HR team holds a Regional Kumustahan at provincial offices, to address current pain-points Meanwhile, Chief Executive Officer Ernest Cu holds a Ka-Globe Jam quarterly town hall. Here, the CEO reveals the status of the company and its future direction, in an open forum format where people can ask questions.
All in all, these initiatives allow us not only to attract but retain the best people to help us push our purpose, with a 97% iSpeak survey engagement rate, 91% Sustainable Engagement Index net of retention score, and 9.08% attrition.
