In 2017, New American Funding continued upholding its standard of creating a great workplace for employees. During the year, the company sought out new ways to cultivate a fun, friendly, and family-oriented environment that would inspire employees to enjoy coming into work. With every event that was organized or new initiative that was launched, the goal was to always maintain the company’s culture of NAF360, which is all about treating everyone with 360 degrees of respect. It also includes making sure employees feel balanced and valued in their daily lives so that they not only look forward to coming to work but want to stay with the company long-term.
Rick and Patty Arvielo uphold an open door policy and welcome interaction. They host a company-wide live stream session every quarter, called Rick and Patty’s 360 Live, answering employee’s questions and providing updates for the entire company.
Patty created a quarterly mentorship program called Thrive and Lead, which launched in October 2017. The program includes New American Funding employees and external mortgage professionals who are mentored for 3 months. When the program launched, 79 participants applied and in December, 132 applied, bringing the total to 211.
Recognizing an aging mortgage workforce nationwide, STEP, Specialized Training Empowering People, was launched last year. The program was developed by New American Funding to equip people for working in every aspect of the mortgage industry. It’s designed to train people who have no background in the industry to be able to work in a diverse scope of roles at New American Funding.
Last year, New American Funding changed their employee’s vacation and sick time. Employee’s submitted their feedback and New American Funding listened and gave each employee three additional vacation days and two extra sick days a year.
The company also implemented and fully launched business-building tools like mobile productivity apps, GoGo LO for Loan Officers, GoGo Partner for Real Estate Agents, and GoGo Home for consumer home shopping. One of the enhancements on the GoGo LO app, allows agents to sign the final 1003 mortgage application with their finger on their mobile device. Rick wanted to help Loan Officers not only achieve a good level of work-life balance, but ways to stay interconnected with clients and fellow employees working on a loan.
New American Funding implemented an automated reputation management service, which has generated over 34,000 positive reviews for our Loan Officers, improving their web presence and making New American Funding a sought after employer. Additionally, the reviews that we receive are not just posted to the Loan Officers social media pages, but also on a branch and corporate level, helping the Loan Officer get more visibility and boosted SEO.
Since the company believes that creating a great work environment means giving back to the community, New American Funding coordinated routine volunteer opportunities through its internal program, Lending a Helping Hand. During the last year, employees collected food for Second Harvest Food Bank, coordinated a clothes drive for WHW, served at Mercy House and South County Outreach.
Additionally, over the past year, NAF360 hosted a variety of events at its headquarters and nationwide branches to keep the NAF360 spirit alive and vibrant. Some of the company-wide initiatives included themed activities during Spirit Week, which resulted in the winning department receiving the Star Cup for a month. The company also celebrated with an annual holiday party and continued its tradition of treating employees to “Fun Friday” events, which ranged from free gourmet coffee to food trucks onsite. In an ongoing desire to cultivate group interaction and team-building activities, NAF360 also sponsored a french fry eating contest, water balloon fight, wellness fair, and Halloween costume and decorating contest – all of which allowed employees to engage, relax, and socialize while at work.
