Entry:

Meliá Hotels International is Spain's leading hotel company and one of the largest hotel companies in the world, with seven famous brands and more than 370 hotels in 43 countries on 4 continents.

Meliá Hotels’ recent global growth is the result of their ongoing strategic plan for the expansion, renewal and repositioning of its brands, a company-wide digital transformation, and update of the company's culture and values to empower its over 45,000 employees and partners.

Since 2011, the group has invested over 600 milion euros to anticipate and adapt to the ever-changing, global, competitive, digital environment, and to the changing expectations of travelers for business-leisure, wellness, and eco-tourism.

For the founder of Meliá, Executive Vice President and CEO, Gabriel Escarrer Jaume, the company’s people have always been its most important asset, "being digital must involve the entire value chain in the industry and, above all, all of our people: the new employee is the key to success in becoming more and more digital."

HR was key to the successful management of a digital transformation, developing new tools and processes to ensure the identification, recruitment, and development of key talent. To that end, Melia:

-Supports and cooperates with universities and tourism and business schools.
-Launched the eMELIÁ digital knowledge and learning platform with global access for all employees - used for training about the brands, service culture, processes and systems, and also offers a catalogue of programmes in technical skills and certified Meliá schools, aligned with the needs and improvement opportunities detected in performance assessments.
-Supports diversity and equal opportunities. 65% of Revenue Managers are now female, with an increasing proportion of women in the Managers’ talent pool. Melia works with partners to promoting employability and training for people at risk of social exclusion.
-Launched a social media networks project, “People by Meliá”, turning employees into influencers and drivers of the experience of working at Melia. People by Meliá on LinkedIn has become a strategic tool for attracting talent globally, along with the Twitter @MHICareers profile, and #WeAreMelia campaign.
-Created new "Brand Ambassadors" roles at its hotels, with staff trained to communicate and boost the activity in social networks
-Launched a new Leadership and Recognition Programme to support over 800 key leaders in the evolution and transformation of the company to help them become an increasing source of inspiration and example for their teams, helping to generate an environment of trust and the feeling of forming part of a big family that is so characteristic of Meliá.
- Retains an up-to-date "talent map" across its properties, and recruitment processes are now mostly covered by internal staff.
-Launched new digital offerings for customers, empowering employees to better know their guests and meet their needs, and Melia launched new multi-channel websites that offer more personalized, data driven experiences.

As a result of the transformation of its talent management model, Melia has received recent recognitions:

-Most attractive hotel company to work for in Spain - 2018 Randstad Employer Brand Research ranked companies with the greatest potential to attract talent.
- Best corporate reputation in the Spanish tourism industry (6 years running)
- One of the 10 strongest brands in Spain
-Best Digital Transformation Enterprise" at the European Mindset Digital Awards
-Most empathetic brand in the Íbex 35 and the happiest company in which to work.
-the "Talent and Workforce" award at Accenture Strategy’s Digital Talent Awards, for its innovative social networking strategy.

With plans for 55 new hotels by the end of 2019, the evolution and transformation of the talent management model at Melia is reaching more people in the digital environment, generating the right conversation, and helping to fill all those new positions while guaranteeing the commitment to the brand.
