Company: Globe Telecom, Inc., Taguig, Manila, Philippines
Category: Employer of the Year – Telecommunications
What comes next, when you become number one?
In 2016, Globe toppled competition and became the top telecommunications company in the Philippines. It was then that CEO Ernest Cu decided to introduce Purpose, which looked beyond business results and focused on the “infinite goal.”
Having an “infinite goal” means one is always improving, to better serve others. Globe envisions itself as the brand that provides more opportunities to customers, businesses, and the nation with its purpose mantra: “In everything we do, we treat people right to Create a Globe of Good.”
“Our employees are our greatest asset,” says Cu, believing that engaged, happy employees are key in delivering purpose-driven customer service.
Thus for 2017, all of Globe’s culture programs were anchored on Purpose and treating our people right.
We help employees grow holistically
Globe University was launched with five different academies offering 100+ courses. It made learning easier via its digital platform where employees can do online training.
Alongside Globe University, Everyday Leadership was introduced to continuously strive for the development of our people, through everyday Performance Management, and help them reach their full potential.
Meanwhile, the Individual Development Plan created a blueprint, for employees to reach their ideal job destination.
For personalized development, Wellness@Globe catered to employees’ holistic growth. There were tracks that made employees fitter (HappyLand Fitness Fair, Wellness Advisor, Biggest Loser), financially stable (Financial Wellness Seminars, Ayala Coop Loans), spiritually fulfilled (First Friday Mass, Islamic Holidays) and socially happy (Interest Clubs). Employees were invited to do purposeful projects via Bring Your Y2Life, where they received mentorship from senior leaders to do advocacies.
We reward and give recognition
At Globe, employees get the benefits relevant to them, through the Flexible Benefits program. For example, unused vacation leaves can be turned into cash, or converted to cover an additional dependent.
To give employees the motivation to excel, an annual gala called Globe Excellence Awards acknowledge top performing employees.
For daily achievements, Globe launched the Kudos which allowed employees to send virtual “Thank You” messages via an online platform. These messages came with corresponding Kudos points, which could be exchanged for merchandise and other rewards.
Finally, a Corporate Incentive Plan gives monetary reward to high-performing employees.
We encourage nation-building and giving back
To help employees pursue their advocacies, every employee is given Volunteer Time Off on top of their leave credits. Globe provides numerous CSR opportunities year-round, even giving employees the chance to volunteer abroad.
To empower employees to find ways to treat customers right, the Customer First Circle (CFC) was launched. Here, employees collaborate to create innovative customer solutions that make people’s lives easier.
The winning projects represent Globe in the annual Center of Regional Excellence for SingTel Group Summit.
