RB (formerly called Reckitt Benckiser) has a unique culture that harnesses the passion of its people. We have a compelling desire to challenge ourselves and each other to not just deliver, but to outperform and make RB the best it can be. With this in mind, RB is continually looking at new ways it can shape the future workplace and deliver sustainable outperformance. Below are highlights on some of the ways RB has worked to build upon its distinct culture and reputation as a great place to work.
Progressive Parental Leave
In early 2016, RB announced a significant expansion of its global parental leave policy. As a result, all RB employees, including the more than 2,200 employees in the United States, now benefit from a fully paid 16-week, parental leave policy. The expanded program was developed to better support RB's global workforce and their families, and reflects the company's culture which encourages a healthy work-life balance. The policy also supports RB's ongoing initiatives to ensure talent density at mid- and senior-level positions.
This new parental leave policy places RB as a leader among CPG industry employers in the United States. In addition to the expanded paid leave, RB announced that employees can take up to an additional 36 weeks unpaid parental leave, fathers who are not primary caregivers will receive one weeks' paternity leave at full pay, and it has introduced a mentoring program for women returning from maternity leave. To date, 100% of eligible employees have taken advantage of the policy worldwide. In the US, 49 women and 9 men have taken advantage of the policy since its inception in Q4 2015.
Diversity is what makes RB's culture unique. We continually strive to strengthen the people we have working at RB and make sure we do all we can to retain our best talent. To that end, RB expanded upon an initiative called Project D.A.R.E in 2016 to provide greater support to women in the following areas: work/life balance, support and flexibility, international mobility and balancing dual careers and family, and strengthening RB’s culture by stepping up the development of an inclusive leadership style. New activities include a women’s mentoring network; webinars for maternity leave preparation; Lean-In Circles; the Accelerate Program; external partnerships with organizations focused on the advancement of women, and an enhanced recruitment workshop focusing on unconscious bias.
Live Your Best
In 2016, RB piloted a program at its North American headquarters in Parsippany, New Jersey, that was designed to help employees recharge and take better care of themselves. That program was so well received by employees that RB North America launched a regional program in January 2017 called Living Well (see attached overview). The program offered a full breadth of wellbeing elements related to mind, body, spirit and community.
Shortly thereafter, building on this concept, RB introduced a new global program called liveyourbest (replacing and expanding upon our regional program) to provide all RB employees with the practical guidance and support needed to lead healthier and happier lives, ultimately embedding “wellbeing” in the RB culture. The program comprises four pillars (Emotional, Physical, Community and Financial), all of which have a significant impact on a person’s wellbeing.
To celebrate the launch of the new program, employees at many RB sites around the world participated in liveyourbest week (see attached PPT calendar), which showcased different ways we can all live our best. Activities ranged from chair meditation, resilience training, group walks, fitness sessions, presentations on financial planning, healthcare benefits, nutrition and more. RB is determined to create a global movement where employees are supported on their wellness journey throughout their career with the company and continues to introduce new activities.
Employer of the Year Summary
-RB’s fully paid 16-week parental leave policy places RB as a leader among CPG industry employers in the US.
-As a result of the D.A.R.E. Project, RB has set a strategic ambition of doubling the number of talented women in senior roles by 2020.
-As part of RB’s regional Living Well initiative, the company provided FREE FitBits to approximately 700 employees. To date, employees have collectively walked over 115 million steps!
-Liveyourbest week participation: Over 100 people had sessions with a company-sponsored nutritionist (sessions continue monthly), over 150 people attended presentations on healthy eating and lifestyle choices. Over 100 people attended “Resilience Training”. Over 250 employees participated in on-site, company-sponsored massage sessions.
-Liveyourbest program: Employee participation at our on-site gym has been fantastic. More than 100 employees taking part in nutrition counseling and personal training sessions. RB covers 100% of the cost of counseling and subsidizes 75% of the cost of on-site personal training sessions.
