Employer of the Year Essay:

In 2016, New American Funding continued upholding its standard of creating a great workplace for employees. During the year, the company sought out new ways to cultivate a fun, friendly, and family-oriented environment that would inspire employees to enjoy coming into work. With every event that was organized or new initiative that was launched, the goal was to always maintain the company’s culture of NAF360, which is all about treating everyone with 360 degrees of respect. It also includes making sure employees feel balanced and valued in their daily lives so that they not only look forward to coming to work but want to stay with the company long-term.

After receiving employee feedback, the Human Resources Department launched an all new employee benefits program in 2016. Employees wanted a more robust offering of benefits so the company changed its medical, dental, and vision plans and providers. Since 2016, the benefits program has expanded to include life insurance coverage up to a certain dollar amount for all employees and their children. Once a month, employees at the corporate office have the opportunity to attend onsite vendor wellness meetings, which are designed to make sure employees are educated on their benefits.

Additionally, the company started the Employee Assistance Program, which offers both financial wellness and anonymous counseling. Through this program, employees now have access to a toll-free hotline where they can receive support when dealing with work or personal matters.

Due to the company’s belief that a happy employee is an engaged employee, the company hosted two health and wellness festivals, which included 60 vendors, food, and raffle prizes. To further maintain positive employee morale, the company strives to celebrate employee achievements and milestones. In March of 2016, the company hosted a “$1 Billion” carnival event, which rewarded employees for their hard work in helping the company reach a new loan volume milestone of $1 billion in a single month. To mark the occasion, New American Funding organized a carnival day that included food, beverage, games, and prize giveaways.

In an ongoing effort to provide employees an opportunity to advance in their career, New American Funding launched, “If you want to grow, we want to know” in May of 2016. This initiative is designed to give employees the opportunity to submit their desired career goals and to be put on a training path to move ahead within the company. In order to support their professional development, the company created Launch Lab an educational program that equips employees with on-the-job instruction. The program combines classroom-style learning with practical handson training so employees are groomed to begin a career in sales or loan consulting. Launch Lab will begin training employees during the summer of 2017.

Since the company believes that creating a great work environment means giving back to the community, New American Funding coordinated routine volunteer opportunities through its internal program, Lending a Helping Hand. During 2016, employees collected food for Second Harvest Food Bank, coordinated a clothes drive for WHW, and served at South County Outreach.

Additionally, over the past year, NAF360 hosted a variety of events at its headquarters and nationwide branches to keep the NAF360 spirit alive and vibrant. Some of the company-wide initiatives included themed activities during Spirit Week, which resulted in the winning department receiving the Star Cup for a month. The company also celebrated with an annual holiday party and continued its tradition of treating employees to “Fun Friday” events, which ranged from free gourmet coffee to photobooth sessions, and food trucks onsite. In an ongoing desire to cultivate group interaction and team-building activities, NAF360 also sponsored a food eating relay, water balloon fight, and egg nog drinking challenge – all of which allowed employees to engage, relax, and socialize while at work.
